As expected, Samsung announced the Wave (model GT-S8500) earlier today as the Mobile World Congress is set to start. Not only is it the first mobile phone to come with the Samsung bada mobile operating system but it is also the first to have Bluetooth 3.0 (with speeds up to 24Mbps) and a Super AMOLED display which features integrated touch input rather than on a separate display layer.
Specifications (for the global edition of the Samsung Wave) are pretty much what was leaked earlier:
- Processor: 1GHz processor
- Operating system: Samsung bada with TouchWiz 3.0 interface
- Connectivity: Quad-band (850/900/1800/199Mhz) GSM/EDGE/GPRS and dual-band (900/211MHz or 850/2100MHz) HSDPA
- Other connectivity: 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0
- Location service: GPS
- Display: 3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen
- Storage: 2GB internal memory and a microSD card slot (up to 32GB)
- Camera: 5MP with autofocus and LED flash
- Battery: 1,500mAh
- Other: 3.5mm headphone jack, 720p video, DivX support, FM radio with RDS
The Samsung Wave will be available starting in April. The fact that there is a global model bodes well for us in North America. Pricing was not disclosed.
