In a recent interview with Forbes, JK Shin, president of Samsung’s mobile communications business, confirmed that Samsung will launch the Galaxy Tab, its first Android-powered tablet sometime before October.
Among the specifications confirmed by Shin are 3G connectivity, GPS, Wi-Fi, two cameras. The device will also be able to communicate with Samsung’s Galaxy S smartphones and share content and applications.
Samsung expects to have its tablet for sale before October, possibly under a different name though.
Last month, Vietnam-based Tinh te leaked details about the upcoming Samsung Tab, suggesting the following specifications:
- Processor: 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A8
- Operating system: Google Android 2.2 with TouchWiz UI
- Display: 7-inch AMOLED touchscreen
- Storage: 16GB onboard / microSD cards up to 32GB
- Battery: 4,000 mAh
- Weight: 370 grams
It looks like this holiday season will be all about tablets…
