Samsung unveiled its Android-powered Samsung Galaxy S at CTIA in late March. While it confirmed that it would be headed to the U.S. (and hopefully Canada as well), it did not indicate which if any carrier would offer it. Some conjecture by MobileCrunch.com is now suggesting that AT&T could offer it. Just how did they reach that conclusion?
It all starts with documents found on the Bluetooth Special Interest Group web site. One refers to the GT-I9000 (none other than the Galaxy S) and another to the SGH-I897. Interestingly, the two share common specifications: 4.0-inch AMOLED display, Android with Samsung TouchWiz 3.0 user interface, quad-band GSM/EDGE, and similar Bluetooth profiles.
It gets interesting when you consider that all Samsung phones with model numbers beginning with SGH and ending with 7 (like the Propel Pro [SGH-i627] and Mythic [SGH-a897]) have all ended up at AT&T.
Could the SGH-I897 be none other than a Samsung Galaxy S variant for AT&T? And if it’s headed to AT&T, could it also head a bit further north here to Canada? Stay tuned…
