A few days ago, Rogers stopped the sale of the HTC Dream due to a 911 call completion issue. It also reached out to all HTC Dream users to ask them to turn off GPS until the issue was fixed. Now, Rogers is doing the same for the HTC Magic. Users are also getting the following mesage:
“Rogers/Fido service message: URGENT 911 Calls: Please disable GPS location on your HTC Magic device to ensure all 911 calls complete. HTC is urgently working on a software upgrade and we will provide details shortly so you can re-enable GPS. Instructions: Select Menu – Select Location – Uncheck Enable GPS Satellite”
Rogers initially thought that the HTC Magic was unaffected but further testing has revealed that it can suffer intermittently from the same issue where emergency 911 calls can fail.
HTC is working on a fix for both devices.
