Slates and tablets are all the rage right now and it looks like RIM wants in on the action. According to CrackBerry.com sources, RIM could launch its own tablet by the end of the year. The source indicates that RIM has placed an order with supplier Hon Hai for 8.9-inch displays.
Little else is known about this product at this point though. One possibility is that the device would be a companion product rather than a full-fledged tablet. For example, it could be an in-car display or a Celio Redfly-like device).
Coincidentally, RIM announced today the acquisition of QNX, the company behind the QNX Neutrino RTOS operating system which includes support for touchscreen displays. Perhaps RIM will use the Neutrino touchscreen technology in this future tablet and future Storm products…
