Research In Motion yesterday announced that it is buying The Astonishing Tribe (TAT), a Swedish software firm that specializes in user interface design for mobile devices. According to David Yach, Chief Technology Officer at RIM:
We’re excited that the TAT team will be joining RIM and bringing their talent to the BlackBerry PlayBook and smartphone platforms.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
RIM has seen much of its market share erode at the hands of the Apple iPhone and Android devices. But recent moves (including the acquisition of Torch Mobile, the company behind its BlackBerry 6 browser, and the QNX purchase, the company behind the upcoming PlayBook‘s new OS) suggest that RIM is fighting back.
