No Windows Mobile devices from Motorola in 2010

Motorola

Motorola scaled back its involvement with Windows Mobile in early 2009 and turned much of its attention on Google Android. But it also indicated that it would consider Windows Mobile 7 for some of its devices to be released in 2010. Now comes word that Motorola will instead continue to use Google Android for its smartphones.

The revelation came as part of an interview between CNET Asia and Spiros Nikolakopoulos, vice president and general manager for Asia Pacific and International Distribution for Motorola’s Mobile Devices business.

There will be between 20 and 30 smartphones globally and, at this moment, all of them will run Android. Naturally, not all will be available everywhere as it depends on the company’s partnership with the various telco operators in each country.

Nikolakopoulos also revealed that Motorola plans to use Qualcomm’s BREW MP or Motorola’s own operating system for non-smartphone models.

Will Motorola return to the Windows Mobile fold in 2011 or is Microsoft’s mobile OS destined for Motorola’s history book?
