Microsoft’s MIX10 is just over a week away. It promises to finally reveal a great deal more about the upcoming Windows Phone 7 Series and its developer platform. In the meantime, a blog post drops a few hints about what will be covered at the event and revealed a few other tidbits of information.
The blog entry confirmed that its latest mobile operating system will not be backwards compatible with previous versions:
Previous Windows mobile applications will not run on Windows Phone 7 Series.
Going forward, developers will need to offer two different versions of their software if they want to support both Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Phone 7 Series.
The post also revealed that Windows Phone 7 Series will be based on .NET, Silverlight, XNA (for gaming), Microsoft’s developer tools and Web 2.0 standards.
Microsoft also confirmed that Windows Mobile 6.5 will continue to be supported and will be offered on future devices.
