A rumour earlier this week suggested that Google Android 3.0 would come with minimum hardware specifications. It now appears that these will be recommendations only. The confusion appears to have stemmed from some incorrect translations of Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin’s Digestiv podcast.
While there is nothing official from Google, it appears that the next major version of Android (Android 3.0 / Gingerbread?) will recommend hardware specifications that include a 3.5-inch or larger display, a 1GHz processor, and 512MB of RAM. For lower end phones, Android 2.1 or 2.2 will remain the version of choice.
Google Android 3.0 is expected sometime in Q4 and is expected to heavily focus on the user interface.
