Motorola reconsidering mobile division spin-off?

Motorola

According to The New York Times, Motorola is reconsidering spinning off its mobile device business. The company first looked at spinning off this unit back in early 2008. A number of developments since then appear to be swaying Motorola to now hold on to the division.

While there has been some interest from other companies, the bids received have fallen below the $US4 and US$5 billion Motorola was expecting. At the same time, the health of the division has improved with the launch of new devices like the Motorola DROID.

Motorola may make a final decision in the upcoming days when its management team meets with its board. Then again, this could continue to drag on as Motorola waits for the outcome of a second round of bids in February.
