Motorola owes at least some recognition to Google Android for reviving its flagging fortunes in the mobile phone space. But this does not appear to be translating to Motorola swearing allegiance to the open source operating system. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, CEO Sanjay Jha revealed that Motorola is considering other mobile operating systems for future devices. Among those is the just announced Windows Phone 7 Series OS.
It was only a few weeks ago that Motorola indicated that all of its 2010 smartphones would run Android. So, has something changed since and if so, what?
Even more interesting is Jha’s statement that Motorola would consider developing its own mobile operating system if it could invest more into R&D.
Should Motorola broaden its portfolio of devices to include different operating systems or should it instead build on the success it has found with Google Android?
