More evidence that WM6.5 devices will not be upgradeable to WP7 Series

Microsoft Windows Phone

Do you still do not quite believe that Microsoft will not offer Windows Phone 7 Series upgrades for existing Windows Mobile 6.5 devices? If so, this will not come as good news. A Laptop Magazine source has indicated that HTC has apparently confirmed that the HTC HD2 will not be compatible with Windows Phone 7. If the HTC HD2 will not get an upgrade, what chance do other WM6.5 devices have?

The lack of upgradeability appears tied to the fact that current Windows Mobile 6.5 devices do not have the three buttons mandated by Windows Phone 7. The strict specification rules set out by Microsoft will make no exception for devices that meet all but this particular requirement.

If the lack of future upgrade is not a deal breaker, T-Mobile is getting ready to launch the HTC HD2 later this month (March 24th according to Laptop Magazine). Pricing is expected to start at US$199 with a two-year contract and top out at US$449 without any contract.
