With the keynote out of the way, the MIX10 conference now moves to reveal more information about development for the upcoming Windows Phone 7 Series. Among the new information is the minimum specifications required for devices that will run Windows Phone 7 Series. These are:
- Processor: ARM v7 Cortex/Scorpion or better
- Display: Capacitive touchscreen with 4 or more contact points
- Screen resolution: 480 by 800 (WVGA) or 480 by 320 (HVGA)
- Memory: 256 MB and minimum 8 GB Flash
- GPU: DirectX 9 acceleration
- Multimedia: Common detailed specs, Codec acceleration
- Keyboard: Optional
- Hardware buttons: Must be fixed on the face
- Sensors: A-GPS, accelerometer, compass, light, proximity
- Camera: 5MP or more with flash and dedicated camera button
Microsoft also claims that WP7S supports multitasking but will only open it to third party developers at an unspecified later point in time. For now, developers will need to rely on a push notification system similar to what Apple offers.
