Microsoft’s October 11th event is shaping up to be one not to be missed (assuming you got an invite). Not only will Windows Phone 7 be formally unveiled but if Neowin.net is correct, we could also learn what Microsoft is planning to do in the tablet space. Citing “sources familiar with the company’s plans,” they report that Microsoft will discuss its future Slate plans at the event.
Speaking at the London School of Economics on Tuesday, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer also indicated that Windows-powered slate devices will be out by Christmas. Could these devices be shown off at Monday’s event?
Last but not least, Microsoft plans to update Windows 7 with additional touch optimizations sometime in the coming year but a major revamp focused on touch will not take place until Windows 8. This will likely limit the appeal of Windows 7 tablets unless manufacturers can come up with their own interface overlay (as HP has done with its TouchSmart PCs).
