The rumours about Windows Mobile 6.6 and Windows Mobile 7 have caused a great deal of discussion around what Microsoft will announce at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. According to Digitimes, Microsoft will have something to say about both versions. Citing sources familiar with Microsoft’s roadmap, Digitimes expects that Microsoft will launch Windows Mobile 6.6 (a renumbered version 6.5.3?) and announce the date when Windows Mobile 7 will be commercially available.
The same sources indicate that device manufacturers will receive Windows Mobile 7 from Microsoft in September 2010. As a result, devices are not expected to be available until Q4 2010 or Q1 2011. Initially, Windows Mobile 7 will only be available in English and a number of European languages. Asian localizations are not expected until 2011.
Among the device manufacturers preparing Windows Mobile 7 devices are Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Toshiba, HTC, Asustek Computer and Acer. Such devices from HTC and LG have already been leaked.
