Many of us were hoping to get more information about the rumoured Microsoft Courier tablet at CES but that did not happen. But new details have now surfaced courtesy of an Engadget “extremely trusted source.” While the Courier retains its dual-screen form factor, a number of details have changed or been fleshed out better.
The Courier appears to be much smaller than had originally been expected. It will not be much larger than 5 by 7-inch photo when closed, will be under an inch thick, and will weigh about one pound. It will be powered by Windows CE 6 (the basis for the Zune HD and Windows Phone 7 Series) rather than Windows 7 as initially rumoured and a Tegra 2 processor. The interface will be pen-based, focusing on drawing and writing. It should also come with a webcam and a headphone jack. The Courier could also double as an e-book reader.
Look for release date sometime in the second half of the year.
