Last August, Microsoft and Nokia announced a new partnership focused on smartphones. The two companies agreed to work together to bring a variety of Microsoft software including Microsoft Office Mobile to Nokia’s Symbian devices. Today, the two launched the first application from their alliance around mobile productivity, Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia devices.
“Our alliance with Nokia aims to bring the Microsoft Office productivity experience to the millions of people using Nokia smartphones around the world,” said Kirt Debique, general manager, Microsoft Office Communications Platform & Solutions Group, Microsoft. “With the arrival of Communicator Mobile for Nokia today, we have a great start to fulfilling our joint vision.”
Microsoft Mobile Communicator lets users see the availability of their colleagues and communicate with them using IM, emails, text messages, or phone calls. Availability and access to initiate communication is embedded into contact cards for ease of use.
Microsoft Mobile Communicator is now available for a number of Symbian-based Nokia E-series smartphones (including the Nokia E52 and E72) through Nokia’s Ovi Store.
