An IDC report predicts great things for Google Android. By 2013, Android will ship on more than 68 million devices. It will be the second most popular mobile operating system, behind only Symbian.
IDC predicts that Android will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 150.4 percent between 2009 and 2013. In comparison, the entire smartphone market will have grown at a compound annual growth rate of 20.9 percent to reach shipments of 390 million units.
IDC’s predictions are not so rosy for Linux and Palm’s webOS. Linux-powered device shipments will drop while webOS will show only limited growth due to limited devices and carrier support.
I wonder what IDC sees in its crystal ball for the Apple OS, BlackBerry OS and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile.
See you in 2013 to see how well IDC called it…
