HTC unveils HTC Smart with Qualcomm Brew Mobile Platform

HTC Smart

As it announced last year, HTC is adding the Qualcomm Brew MP to its stable of operating systems and getting into the feature phone business. Today, it announced Brew-powered device, the HTC Smart.

“HTC has always focused on listening to customers and setting the stage for new mobile categories and HTC Smart is the response to customer demand around the world for an easier-to-use, affordable smartphone,” said Peter Chou, chief executive officer, HTC Corporation. “Just adding a touch interface doesn’t mean a phone is a smartphone; The integration of HTC Sense brings an unparalleled smartphone experience for people looking to do more on their phone.”

The HTC Smart will be powered by a 300MHz processor and Brew MP with HTC’s Sense user interface. It will come with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and single-band (2100MHz) UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen display, 256MB RAM and 256MB ROM, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR and A2DP, a 3MP fixed-focus camera with LED flash, a microSD card slot, a 3.5 mm stereo audio jack, and a 1,100mAh battery.

The HTC Smart will be available this spring across Europe and Asia. There is no word yet on the possibility of North American availability later.
