Palm continues to be the topic of takeover rumours. Only a couple of days ago, it was Lenovo doing the buying. Today, it’s none other than HTC that is apparently considering acquiring the company, according to the Chinese site UDN.com. The news site reports that HTC has begun its assessment to determine whether the acquisition makes sense. Discussions may have even started back at the CTIA tradeshow last month.
Should HTC buy Palm, not only would it secure its own proprietary operating system and its own application store but it would also gain Palm’s technology patents which might help it defend against Apple’s lawsuit.
While neither company has publicly commented on the rumours, Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein has stated in the past that Palm is not opposed to an acquisition.
