Spanish site Clipset.net is reporting that the upcoming HP slate could be more expensive than the cheapest Apple iPad model (16GB and Wi-Fi only) when it comes out later this year. The site expects that it will sell for €400 when it hits Europe. That would translate to about US$540. My suspicion is that HP will strive to come in lower or match the iPad’s entry price point.
The HP slate will be powered by an Intel Atom processor and Windows 7. It will come with a rear-facing camera, USB ports, a memory card slot, and a non-slip rubber finish. Clipset.net describes it as thicker than the Apple iPad and suggests that its roots lead back to a tablet PC. Given that this is likely a pre-production model, final specifications and details could still change.
Clipset.net also indicates the HP slate will ship in the U.S. in June and by September in Europe.
