HP Hurricane webOS tablet coming this year?

Hewlett-Packard

According to Examiner.com, Hewlett-Packard, which recently announced it would acquire Palm, will release a webOS tablet later this year. According to an “insider at HP”, HP is already working on the device codenamed Hurricane and could have it out sometime in Q3.

According to one industry analyst:

“If rumors of this tablet are true, this can be a killer device–webOS is an outstanding operating system for a tablet.”

A Q3 release seems a bit of a stretch though. HP has indicated that it will close the transaction by the end of July. If so, can HP really have a webOS tablet out a couple of months later? Unless Palm is already working on such a project and will simply rebrand it once the acquisition is complete.

Recently, rumours surfaced that HP had halted development of its Windows 7 slate device due to sluggish performance and unsatisfactory battery life.
