HP confirms Windows 7 tablet not dead yet

On the heels of Windows 7 tablets showing up on its site, Hewlett-Packard confirmed that it is still evaluating such devices despite rumours that it had stopped the entire project. According to HP spokeswoman Marlene Somsak:

“In reference to a Windows 7-based slate, we are in customer evaluations now and will make a determination soon on the next step.”

Last week, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said that nearly two dozen hardware manufacturers were working on Windows tablets. Among the companies named was HP (others included ASUS, Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, Toshiba, and Sony).

HP is also working on webOS and Android tablets. Perhaps all three will hit the market with the winner being the one that sells the best and the losers facing extinction.
