Steve Ballmer unveiled a Hewlett-Packard tablet PC during his CES 2010 keynote. But it appears that HP has much bigger plans for the form factor. According to The New York Times, the company is actually working on a number of different prototypes.
According to an anonymous major magazine senior editor, HP reportedly is also working on a much smaller version powered by Google Android. It is about half the size of the tablet seen at CES and about twice the size of an iPhone. HP may also be working on a Linux-powered device.
HP went as far as confirming that it will soon announce tablets but did not confirm the Android rumours. Marlene Somsak, HP media relations Director, said:
“I’m certain that we will be announcing new Slates in the future as they are a very interesting area for us. There are also tons of HP Labs activities looking at a numerous different areas. As of now we are not announcing a new Android-based slate.”
HP is also developing digital content for the new slates. It has partnered with companies such as Microsoft and Adobe and is talking with a number of publishers such BusinessWeek, and Wired.
