Google is looking to release its Chrome operating system by “late fall” according to Sundar Pichai who heads the Chrome project. While not quite a delay from its original forecast release date of sometime “the second half of 2010”, it’s likely that we won’t see the first Chrome OS devices until the end of the year.
The first version of Chrome OS will be designed for netbooks and notebooks. A number of requirements will be specified as Google is looking to “be selective on how we come to market because we want to deliver a great user experience.”
With Google giving Chrome OS away for free (as it does with Android), we can expect to see Android-powered devices to cost less than similar Windows-powered ones.
