Google let it slip a while back that it was planning to launch Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) in Q4 2010. In an interview with the Israel-based newspaper Calcalist, Android product manager Gaurav Jain reaffirmed the release date and revealed that Google also plans to unveil its new music service at the same time.
Google’s music service, based on its acquisition of music-streaming service Simplify Media, was first revealed with the introduction of Android 2.2.
With separate rumours of Apple getting ready to launch its own streaming service swirling as well, an interesting new battlefront between Apple and Google could emerge in the fall.
