Google Docs mobile editing coming to Android and Apple iPad

Google yesterday announced that Google Docs users will soon be able to edit their documents on their Android devices and the Apple iPad.

Today we demonstrated new mobile editing capabilities for Google Docs on the Android platform and the iPad. In the next few weeks, co-workers around the world will soon be able to co-edit files simultaneously from an even wider array of devices.

Google did not provide any details such as whether specific Android versions or devices would be required. Will they offer a native application? Is there any reason why the Apple iPhone was left out?
