Google announces Google Nexus S with Android 2.3

As rumours had suggested, Google today announced the Google Nexus S with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). As expected, the Nexus S will be lead device for Gingerbread and will be the first device to ship with the latest version of Android.

We co-developed this product with Samsung-ensuring tight integration of hardware and software to highlight the latest advancements of the Android platform. As part of the Nexus brand, Nexus S delivers what we call a “pure Google” experience: unlocked, unfiltered access to the best Google mobile services and the latest and greatest Android releases and updates.

Gingerbread comes with a number of enhancements including improved performance, user interface refinements, NFC support, a new keyboard and text selection tool, Internet (VoIP/SIP) calling, improved copy/paste functionality and gyroscope sensor support.

The Google Nexus S will be available in the US starting on December 16th either unlocked with with a T-Mobile contract through Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores and the Best Buy website. It will also be available in the UK starting on December 20th. There is no word on availability in Canada or other countries.
