Garmin and Asus confirm smartphone partnership split

Confirming rumours that surfaced this past weekend, Garmin and Asus today confirmed that they are putting an end to their co-branded smartphone partnership. Since joining forces in February 2009, the two companies released a total of six devices but sales never met expectations.

Asus will move forward with its own Asus-branded devices, some of which will come preloaded with Garmin navigation and Location Based Service (LBS) applications. Garmin may also offer its solutions to other device manufacturers as well as consumer application stores.

Garmin and Asus will continue to sell and support existing models but did not provide details as to how long this support will go on.
