During an analyst call to discuss Dell’s latest financial results, CEO Michael Dell reconfirmed that his company is working on both Google Android and Microsoft Windows Phone 7 devices.
“You’re also starting to see us a bit on the device side,” Dell said, referring to the introduction of the Dell Mini 3 smartphone, which runs Android, in November 2009. “We’re very much working with Android and Windows Mobile 7, and we see those platforms as more attractive alternatives to other suggestions that you may have offered.”
Dell’s comment was in response to questions about whether Dell would purchase a mobile operating system of its own as HP did with its Palm acquisition.
Last month, rumours surfaced of four future smarpthones that Dell is working on. Three (Smoke, Thunder and Flash, are to be powered by Android while the fourth will be powered by Windows Phone 7 (Lightning) Dell is also expected to launch the Streak line of tablet devices.
