Ron Garriques, the President of Dell’s Communication Solutions group, will leave Dell in January 2011 after the company decided to restructure the division responsible for the company’s smartphone and tablet products. According to spokesman David Frink: “He made a decision to look at other opportunities as we integrate the former communications solutions group into our core operating structure.”
Garriques came from Motorola in February 2007. Focused first on consumer products, he created the mobile group in late 2009. Since then, Dell has released the Dell Mini 3i (known as the Aero in the US), the Dell Streak tablet, and the Dell Venue Pro smartphone. A number of yet-to-be-released Android devices (the Thunder, Smoke and Flash) were also developed during his tenure.
Garriques will receive a severance payment of US$1.44 million as well as an incentive plan payment of US$378,000 for work done in 2010. He is not going very far though. He will stay on as a consultant for 2011, collecting two lump sum payments of US$3.15 million under the terms of his new consultancy agreement.
