CNET is the latest to indicate that Microsoft will reveal its upcoming Windows Mobile 7 operating system at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in mid-February. More information focusing on application and game development for the new operating system is expected to follow at the Mix 10 event in March.
CNET is also reporting that its sources have indicated that Microsoft is hoping to finalize Windows Mobile 7 by the summer to ensure that devices are available before the end of the year. This lines up with some previous rumours and suggests that rumours that WM7 had been delayed to 2011 may only apply to certain language localizations.
Microsoft could also a announce a line of consumer phones. These are likely the result of Microsoft’s acquisition of Danger back in early 2008. This line of phones will likely use Windows Mobile (WM6.5?) and feature integration with Zune and other Microsoft consumer services.
