Chatr, the new Rogers flanker brand intended to take on the new players, is set to launch on July 28th. The launch had been scheduled to occur about a week earlier but was delayed for unclear reasons. In-store sales support representatives will be known as “Chatalysts.”
Among the devices Chatr is expected to offer are the Essential (Nokia 1661) for CA$49.99, the Flip (LG GB125R) for CA$69.99, the Slider (Nokia 2680) for CA$89.99, and the QWERTY (Samsung Gravity) for CA$149.99. Nothing spectacular but that’s not Chatr’s mission anyways. Unlocked phones should also be supported.
Plan-wise, only two will be offered. There will be an Unlimited Talk plan for CA$35 per month and a Unlimited Talk & Text for CA$45 per month. Both plans will include Caller ID, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding, Group Calling and Unlimited Incoming Texts. Also expect to see no activations fees and billing by the minute.
Chatr will operate in zones much as WIND Mobile does (and likely covering similar markets). Expect to see additional fees when you step outside of your zone and for long distance. It’s not clear if Chatr will offer add-ons to target certain international regions (like Mobilicity does with its Unlimited International Long Distance).
