CES 2010: NVIDIA unveils Next Generation Tegra platform

NVIDIA unveiled the second generation of its Tegra platform yesterday at CES 2010, billing it as “the world’s first processor for the mobile web, specifically designed for the high-resolution needs of tablets”.

“Without question, 2010 is going to be year of the tablet,” said Tim Bajarin, President, Creative Strategies, Inc. “The new NVIDIA Tegra processor has a unique feature set critical for tablets — fast web browsing with fully rendered pages, uncompromised graphics, snappy user interface and HD video – all with the battery life we’ve only seen with cell phones.”

The new Tegra platform will feature eight independent processors including the dual-core Cortex-A9 processor running up to 1GHz for mobile applications. It promises performance up to 10 times faster than the processors used in smartphones today and four times the performance of the earlier Tegra processor. It will also come with the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 and support 1080p video playback and 3D touchscreen user interfaces. At the same time, it promises enough battery life for over 16 hours of HD video or 140 hours of music.
