Just ahead of WES 2010 and on the heels of its BlackBerry Bold 9650 and Pearl 3G smartphones, Research In Motion showed off a short video of the next version of its mobile operating system BlackBerry OS. According to RIM co-Chief Executive Mike Lazaridis, Version 6.0 will be available sometime in Q3 2010. The reaction seemed quite positive with the audience breaking out into applause after the presentation.
BlackBerry OS 6.0 will be available for both both touchscreen and non-touchscreen devices. It will also come with a new WebKit-based browser (likely based on its Torch Mobile Iris browser acquisition).
RIM also plans to offer the upgrade to as many current BlackBerry smartphones as possible.
