Bell today announced that it has begun to upgrade its HSPA+ network to double speeds to a maximum of 42Mbps. It will first launch in Toronto on November 23rd.
“Canada’s Best Network just got better. By implementing HSPA+ Dual Cell technology, Bell Mobility offers clients the ability to access the Internet and other data services at what we believe are the fastest mobile data speeds commercially available from any wireless carrier in North America,” said Wade Oosterman, President of Bell Mobility & Residential Services, and Bell’s Chief Brand Officer.
Bell will continue to deploy Dual Cell technology on its network throughout 2011 but has not given any hints on specific markets and timelines.
Bell is launching the Novatel Wireless U547 Turbo Stick, its first device to be able to take advantage of the new speeds, to coincide with the launch. Pricing was not disclosed but it will be subject to a CA$10 per month add-on feature as Bell introduces new speed-based pricing.
