Sony Ericsson launched the Xperia X10 with Rogers Wireless earlier tonight. I unfortunately forgot my camera at home as I rushed out the door so no pictures but here are a few details from the event:
- Sony Ericsson and Rogers expected about 2,000 preregistrations. Instead, they got 12,000.
- Rogers Wireless will launch the Xperia X10 on April 15th
- It will sell for CA$149.99 with a three-year contract (confirming earlier rumours) or CA$549.99 without a contract
- Sony Ericsson is hoping to offer the Android 2.1 upgrade in November
- It comes with Moxier Mail with MS Exchange support
- The 854 by 480 display is quite nice (but I still prefer that of the Motorola Milestone)
I only had a few minutes to really play with the Xperia X10. I thought that it might be a bit on the bulky side with the 4-inch display but found it surprisingly comfortable. It also feels quite solid although I’m not sold on the plastic screen (I think it will smudge and could easily scratch). I also tried out Sony Ericsson’s Mediascape, a media player, and Timescape, a social media aggregator work. I would need to use them a bit more to really make up my mind but there is definitely promise there.
All in all, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will be a welcome addition to Rogers Wireless’ fleet of Android devices.
