Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is planning to hold a media event on September 7th where it will unveil new iTunes features, a new iPod touch, and a new Apple TV.
Apple is expected to announce that TV show rentals are coming to iTunes. Apple is in “advanced talks” with News Corp., according to Bloomberg sources. Rentals would cost US$0.99 and be good for 48 hours. Shows would be available within 24 hours of their air dates and would be commercial-free. Content from CBS Corp., NBC Universal and Walt Disney Co. could also be available for rental if Apple can hammer out agreements with the respective companies.
Apple is also expected to announce a new iPod touch with a high-resolution Retina display (similar to that of the iPhone 4) and a revised Apple TV. The latter would come with a smaller hard drive than the current model and will focus on streaming content from iTunes.
Earlier rumours had suggested that Apple could hold this year’s event a bit later than usual. They also predicted both front and rear-facing cameras, support for Apple’s FaceTime Wi-Fi video calling software, and possibly an A4 processor for the new iPod touch as well as a new iPod shuffle with a small 1.7-inch touchscreen display and a new iPod nano.
