As promised a week ago, Apple will offer a free case with every iPhone 4 purchase up to September 30th to help deal with signal attenuation issues. Customers can choose an iPhone 4 Bumper or a select third-party case.
The program is run through the iPhone 4 Case Program app. Once installed, simply launch the app, sign in and select your Bumper or case. Apple then takes care of the rest.
Those who already purchased an iPhone 4 must apply no later than August 22, 2010. Otherwise, you must apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase. If you already purchased a Bumper, Apple will give you a refund.
It’s not clear at this time what will happen after September 30th. Is Apple hoping to have a hardware fix in place by then? If not, I suspect that the offer could get extended.
