Sony Ericsson has begun to push out an update to Android 2.1 to its Xperia X8 smartphone. The deployment will be gradual, following a similar approach taken with the Xperia X10 family. Considering that carrier approvals are required, some customers could be waiting a while.
As to what is included with the update:
The Xperia X8 follows pretty much in line with the mini products when it comes what to expect from the updated software. The things added besides the obvious step-up to Android 2.1 are the same as for the already started roll-out for Xperia X10 mini and mini pro.
This will include improved Bluetooth functionality, a new backup and restore application, automatic contact picture synchronization between Facebook and your phonebook, and improved media handling in messages.
