Amazon to unveil thinner Kindle this August?

Bloomberg is reporting that Amazon could unveil its next generation Kindle e-reader later this summer. While the new device will sport a more responsive and sharper resolution display, it will not come with a colour screen or support for touch, according to Bloomberg’s sources.

This is not to say that colour and multi-touch will not ever make their way onto the Kindle. Both are being looked at by Lab126, Amazon’s division responsible for designing the Kindle. Prototypes are apparently already running but it remains to be seen when consumers will see such Kindles.

Earlier this week, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos indicated that the Kindle will remain focused on long-form reading rather than evolving into a multi-purpose device such as the Apple iPad.

Amazon launched its first Kindle back in 2006.
