Amazon Kindle DX goes global

Amazon Kindle DX

Amazon announced today that it is expanding distribution of the Kindle DX to over over 100 countries (including Canada). Following in the footsteps of its smaller sibling, the new version of the Kindle DX will now come with Global Wireless. The smaller Kindle became available internationally back in October 2009.

“Kindle DX is great for personal and professional documents, cookbooks and textbooks – anything that is highly formatted. Documents look so good on the big Kindle DX display, that you’ll find yourself changing ink toner cartridges less often and printing fewer documents,” said Ian Freed, Vice President, Amazon Kindle. “We’re excited to be able to offer Kindle DX to customers worldwide so they can carry all of their personal documents along with their whole library in one slender package.”

The Kindle DX is a larger version of the Kindle. It comes with a 9.7-inch display and comes with 3.3GB of available memory. Its larger screen suits textbooks and newspapers better than the Kindle’s 6-inch screen.

The Kindle DX with Global Wireless is now available for pre-order for US$489. It will begin to ship on January 19th.
