Amazon announces Kindle for Mac

Amazon announced the latest version of its Kindle software, this time for Apple Mac computers. Amazon already offers versions for the PC, Apple iPhone and iPod touch, and BlackBerry devices.

“Kindle for Mac is the perfect companion application for customers who own a Kindle or Kindle DX,” said Jay Marine, director, Amazon Kindle. “For those customers around the world who don’t yet have a Kindle, Kindle for Mac is a great way to instantly access and read the most popular new releases as well as their old favorites.”

Kindle for Mac offers much of the same functionality as the Kindle itself. Users can purchase, download books from the Kindle Store, access their library of previously purchased books, choose from more than 10 different font sizes and adjust words per line, and view notes and highlights marked on the Kindle, Kindle DX, and other devices. It also comes with Amazon’s Whispersync technology to allow synchronization of bookmarks and last page read across devices. Like Kindle for PC, it supports full colour.

A number of additional features including full text search and the ability to create and edit notes and highlights will be added later.

Kindle for Mac is available for free in over 100 countries directly from Amazon.
