BGR has landed details about Verizon’s product roadmap for the rest of the year and into next year. The details focus on Google Android devices including smartphones and tablets. General LTE deployment plans are also provided by BGR’s source.
On the smartphone front, look for another Motorola DROID to launch around November. The DROID Pro could come with a 1.3GHz processor, 4-inch display and global roaming capabilities. Verizon could also launch a QWERTY-candybar device with Android 2.2, touchscreen, and global roaming. Smartphones from both Samsung and HTC are also coming.
Verizon will also launch some Android tablets, one from Samsung and one from Verizon (the latter supporting earlier rumours). The Samsung tablet (likely the Galaxy Tab) will sport a 7-inch display and a front-facing camera. Motorola’s tablet will come with a 10-inch display, either a 1GHz or 1.3GHz processor, a front-facing camera and Android 3.0. The Samsung tablet will likely be released first as Android 3.0 could hold up the release of Motorola’s version to February 2011.
A new Novatel LTE MiFi device could also be available as early as January 2011. It could support up to 10 simultaneous Wi-Fi users.
On the LTE front, Verizon is hoping to have 75 percent of the US covered by LTE by April 2012. Verizon will offer a US$59.99 per month LTE plan although there are no details on data allowance limits.
There is no word from BGR’s source on whether or not Verizon will offer the iPhone early next year as past rumours have suggested.
Exciting stuff if it pans out.
