Sprint unveils HTC Evo 4G

As widely rumoured, Sprint announced its first 4G smartphone, the HTC Evo 4G (codename Supersonic). Sprint becomes the first major U.S. carrier to do so.

“Sprint continues to lead the 4G revolution as we introduce HTC EVO 4G to give our customers an experience that is unlike anything available in wireless to date,” said Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO. “Not only is this feature-rich device incredible on our Sprint 3G network, but Sprint 4G speeds will take mobile multimedia, including live video streaming, gaming and picture downloads, to a whole new level.”

Specifications of the Sprint HTC Evo 4G:

  • Processor: 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • Operating system: Google Android 2.1 with HTC Sense
  • Connectivity: 4G WiMAX and 3G EVDO Rev A.
  • Other connectivity: GPS, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v2.1+EDR
  • Display: 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen
  • Memory: 1GB of internal memory
  • Storage: microSD cards up to 32GB (8GB microSD card included)
  • Camera: 8MP / 1.3MP front-facing
  • Sensors: Accelerometer, digital compass, proximity, light
  • Connectors/ports: HDMI-out, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB
  • Other: FM radio, built-in kickstand
  • Battery: 1,500mAh

The HTC Evo 4G will also function as a mobile hotspot, allowing up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices to share the 4G experience.

The Sprint HTC Evo 4G will be available later this summer. Pricing was not revealed.
