Why did the Kindle not launch in Canada?

You can now order the Kindle from practically every corner of the world but good luck trying to order it in Canada. As of today, it remains unavailable here. According to The Globe and Mail, the delay is due to the fact that Amazon is still negotiating with Canadian carriers to offer wireless support for its WhisperNet service.

With Bell and TELUS about to launch their HSPA networks, it appears that Amazon is reviewing its options to get the most favourable terms from a Canadian wireless partner. But Bell has apparently not been approached by Amazon and TELUS simply declined to comment. So what is going on?

Will Amazon have a Canadian deal in place soon? It had better do so if it does not want to miss the upcoming holiday season. I know the Kindle is now on my Christmas wish list…
