Rogers Wireless and its Fido subsidiary announced today that subscribers will now be able to send and receive Twitter updates via SMS (using Short Code 21212).
When the service goes live today, Rogers Wireless customers who subscribe to a text messaging plan will be able to update their Twitter status and receive updates (known as “tweets”) via text messages on their mobile phones. Twitter texts are treated as standard messages under all text messaging plans.
All of Twitter’s capabilities will be supported. This includes the ability to follow new feeds, reply to updates and select which feeds to received updates from.
There will be no additional cost for customers who already have a text messaging plan. Outside of such plans, each SMS will cost CA$0.15.
Bell has been offering the same service since late February.
