WMExperts.com reached out to Torch Mobile after news broke out yesterday that Research In Motion was buying the company behind the Iris browser for Windows Mobile. Asked whether the company would continue to develop the browser for Windows Mobile, Torch Mobile spokesman George Staikos said,
The company will no longer continue developing for Windows Mobile or Windows-CE.
I can’t say that the news is a big surprise. I would have been surprised if RIM had decided to support development of a browser for a competing operating system.
Fortunately, there are still some alternatives to Internet Explorer Mobile such as Skyfire and Opera Mobile as well as the forthcoming Mozilla Firefox Mobile (Fennec).
