AT&T is set to launch at least three new HTC devices in the upcoming months. The first two, the HTC Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2, are quite familiar to us, but the third, the Android-powered HTC Lancaster, is new.
Not to left out, AT&T is also going to offer the HTC Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2. Versions, under the codenames of Warhawk and Fortress, have been outed by Engadget and its leaked AT&T roadmap. Specifications line up fairly well with those of the generic models but there are a few differences. The Fortress (Touch Pro2) will come with tri-band 3G rather than dual-band as we have seen so far. The Warhawk will have a 3.2MP camera (rather than 5MP) and a larger 1350mAh battery. The Warhawk will launch with Windows Mobile 6.5 whereas the Fortress will come with Windows Mobile 6.1.
The documents suggest a May 25th release date for the Fortress (with an upgrade to Windows Mobile 7 in September). As Engadget points out, this is likely outdated information so look for a later release date and a possible upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 rather than 7. The Warhawk shows an August 24th release date.
AT&T is also getting into the Google Android game. The HTC Lancaster is a QWERTY slider that is powered by a Qualcomm MSM7225 processor. It will come with tri-band (850/1800/1900MHz) GSM/GPRS/EDGE and dual band (850/1900Hz) HSDPA connectivity, a 2.8-inch QCGA display, Bluetooth 2.0, A-GPS, a 3MP fixed-focus camera, a microSD card slot, and a 1350mAh battery. While powered by Android, the Lancaster will feature a customized user interface focusing on social messaging. AT&T will have a six month exclusive on it. It could be available as early as August 3rd but the custom interface could delay this.
