Rumours had suggested it was coming and now, T-Mobile USA has made it official. T-Mobile has announced its second Google Android-powered smartphone, the myTouch 3G.
Manufactured by HTC, it is based on the HTC Magic but T-Mobile has made a number of hardware and software modifications. Powered a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7201a processor by Google Android 1.5, it comes with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and dual-band (1700/2100MHz) UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen display, 512MB of internal memory, Wi-Fi, GPS, a microSD card slot (a 4GB card to be included), a 3.2MP camera with autofocus, and Exchange support. It will be available in black, white or deep red (merlot). Unlike the T-Mobile G1, it will not come with a hardware keyboard but will have a trackball.
The myTouch 3G will be available for pre-order exclusively for T-Mobile customers starting on July 8th with shipments expected to begin at the end of July. Non T-Mobile customers will have to wait until early August. It will sell for US$199 with a two-year service contract.
